Salt Lake City Tourists – 6/8/13

Salt Lake Temple

Salt Lake Temple

We’ve been in Salt Lake for the past 2 nights and the weather has really heated up – in the 90’s.  Staying at a KOA close to the center of town with easy access to all of the sites.  We visited Temple Square, which is a 10-acre complex with many historic buildings including the iconic Salt Lake Temple, all related to Mormon history and genealogy.  We were there on a Friday and saw 20+ wedding parties taking photos.  I’m not sure if this is a normal occurrence or if Friday has some significance, but it was kind of cool.

We also went to the Saturday public market, the Great Salt Lake to dip our toes, historic Saltaire (a very cool story – click on the link to learn about this place) and the Olympic Park at Park City.  Oh and we ate at one of Man v. Food’s featured venues, Crown Burgers, for their famous cheeseburger topped with pastrami.  It did not disappoint!

Neither of us have ever been here before and I must say it is a very pretty city, surrounded by gorgeous green, snow-capped mountains. We head south tomorrow to start our National Park extravaganza. First up: Zion.  Expect lots of photos over the next 2 weeks (that is if we can get a good wi-fi connection).

5 random observations from me:
1. Road construction is EVERYWHERE
2. RV Parks seem to all be located near railroad tracks
3. Driving make me sleepy no matter what time of day (sorry Mike)
4. My sleep number is 25; Mikes is 35
5. I am becoming more flexible everyday, but still have a ways to go…

Is it June already? – 6/3/13

Hard to believe we are into June already and we have been on the road for almost 3 weeks!  We spent one night in Likely, CA and wished we could have stayed a few days in this little gem of a town.  The RV park was right on a golf course!  We had to get on the road to Reno where we had reservations for our Anniversary and to meet our friends Matt & Nicole.  We parked the MoHo in the parking lot of the Peppermill and stayed at the hotel.  The weather was hot, so it was nice to be in the hotel and use the pool.  We donated nicely to the Reno economy, but had a great time.  When we got on the road this morning, we both actually commented that we were happy to be back in our home on wheels.  Looking forward to a good night sleep tonight.  Drove about 5 hours today to Elko, NV across the heart of Northern Nevada.  We are staying at the Iron Horse RV Resort and plan to golf, maybe do a gold mine tour (so touristy, I know) and relax for a few days and get ready for the National Parks of Utah!!!

p.s. Miller is attempting his first batch of wings in the MoHo. For those of you who don’t know, this is a staple of his diet and something he was concerned about.  We only have a convection oven/microwave, so it will be interesting to see how they turn out.  Stay tuned…

More Pics from Crater Lake – 5/29/13

FINALLY got a better internet connection.

Click HERE if you want to see more pics from Crater Lake National Park and Crater Lake RV Resort.  They are pretty high resolution, so give them a second to load in.  Click on any image to then be able to scroll through them.

p.s. We are in Likely, CA right now.  A small town in the NE corner of the state about 180 miles north of Reno — our destination tomorrow for our Anniversary and to meet Matt & Nicole for the weekend.  Forecast = 90 degrees.  Love to all!

Love me some Bend – 5/26/13

IMG_0020We’ve been hanging out in Bend, Oregon since Wed and staying at a very nice place, Crown Villa RV Park.  It has been great to spread out, dry out and get organized a bit.  This is a very cool town and one that we could stay in for a long time.  I can see my brother loving this place.  Lots of fun, active, social people and dogs are allowed everywhere!

Yesterday, we explored the Old Mill District.  Went to the Public Market and completed our Bend Ale Trail tour that we started on Thursday – hit 9 of 10 breweries. Met some great people along the way and of course sampled many local brews.  Our favorites were 10 Barrel and Bend Brewing Company.  When we come back here with a group, we HAVE to do it by bicycle.  Check this thing out…your group pedals and you can drink beer along the way.

We were supposed to golf today, but the rain is back, so we decided to cancel.  Should have known because we washed the car yesterday.  Mike is flushing the water tanks as we speak and I will head over to the clubhouse to do some laundry.  Maybe we’ll hit the food truck scene and Hangover 3 tonight.

Heading to Crater Lake tomorrow.

5 random observations from me:
1. My house is on wheels, so things are going to go wrong.  I’m trying to go with the flow.
2. DirecTV absolutely sucks!
3. Mike & I are both indecisive people.
4. I am feeling unbelievably relaxed.
5. Mike is the most patient person in the world.

Practice Run to Anacortes

Fully hooked up!

Fully hooked up!

Mike here. We did our first weekend trip to test everything. We towed the MDX (RV lingo is “toad”) up to Anacortes and back with no issues! I can feel the extra weight, but the MoHo still has plenty of power to get up the big hills without causing a huge backup behind us. All went well, and I am happy to report that I think we are ready to hit the road!
Now that we are both done with our jobs, Traci’s last day was Thursday, we can finally sit down together and go over some of the little details. I am excited to bring her up to speed on a lot of the stuff I have learned, she has been super focused on finishing work, and leaving things organized for her replacement. This week we will be busy packing up and getting the last items loaded onto the MoHo for the first 3 ½ month trip!
